Mik’s Food Scrapbook: Rangers Ballpark at Arlington

At the Rangers game Mik tried the funnel cake with powdered sugar. He did not finish it all, but it was not because it was bad. In fact he thought it was very good (by the way he had never had funnel cake before). The only reason he did not finish it was that he got full.

Mik’s Food Scrapbook: Minute Maid Park

At the Astros game Mik tried the chicken tenders and fries. He was not impressed with the chicken tenders and did not even finish them. The fries were better, but not that great either.

I had a strawberry smoothie at the game and Mik tried some of it. He thought it was really good.

Mik’s Food Scrapbook: Nationals Park

The first thing Mik got when we got inside Nationals Park was a pretzel hot dog from Noah’s Pretzels. He thought it was okay, but the ones from Pretzelmaker are better. He certainly would have skipped it all together if he had known we would end up sitting in the Diamond Club with the all-you-can-eat buffet.

Mik was kind of full from the pretzel dog, but when he noticed they had chicken pot pie he had to have it. Pot Pie is one of his all time favorite foods. He said the crust was different than he is used to, but it was way better than having a hot dog. There are only two things he has had at ballparks on this trip that rate better than the pot pie. One was the pierogis at PNC Park.

The other thing that was better than the pot pie was the cookies he had for dessert in the Diamond Club. He really enjoyed the peanut butter ones. He also liked the chocolate peanut butter chip ones. He also tried a bite of my lemon bar. He thought it was okay, but he enjoyed the cookies way more.

Mik’s Food Scrapbook: Turner Field

The first food item we got at Turner Field was Braves Ice. It is basically just the Liberty Ice red, white, and blue Dippin’ Dots flavor renamed Braves Ice because it is also the team’s colors. I got it for myself, but Mik stole quite a few bites and enjoyed them while I was buying the stickers for the car and Dad was holding the helmet with the Braves Ice.

When we came into the park Mik noticed they had stands with Minute Maid Frozen Lemonade cups. He loves those and always gets them at Disneyland, so he really enjoyed having one at the Braves game.

The other food item Mik got at the first Braves game we went to was a hot dog. He was not impressed with it at all. He thought the hot dog bun tasted like mustard even though Dad only put ketchup on it. It was not the worst he has had, as he actually finished it, but I think that had something to do with it being nearly the end of the game and Dad was not going to get him anything different.

At the second Braves game we went to (Maddux’s number retired one) Mik tried the Chick-fil-a Chicken Sandwich. I knew he did not like their chicken strips from past experiences, but I did not remind him because I thought the sandwich would be different. Turns out it is just as bad in his opinion. He did not even eat half of it before giving it to Dad to finish. He did like their waffle fries, though.

Mik’s Food Scrapbook: Georgia Aquarium

The main reason we ended up going to the Georgia Aquarium was that we were hungry after the World of Coca Cola and the café in the Aquarium was the only thing nearby to go eat at. Mik had a corn dog and a red velvet cupcake for lunch here. He rated the corn dog horrible because it was overcooked and even the hot dog was burned. The red velvet cupcake was no Fox & Obel Fat Boy, but it was still good, especially since it was only $1.

Mik’s Food Scrapbook: Citi Field

At Citi Field Mik tried the tacos from the food court behind the outfield. Mik was very disappointed in them. They were so bad he did not even finish them. I think it was mostly because they were corn tortillas and it had a lot of cilantro, but it also did not seem like the normal ground meat he is used to in a taco.

Mik’s Food Scrapbook: Fenway Park

Mik did not have much to eat at the actual game, but where we ate before the game is still sort of in Fenway Park. Game On is located in one of the corners of Fenway Park, although it can only be accessed from outside the park. Here Mik got Fish & Chips. They were not that good in his opinion and he did not even eat much of them. He did, however, fill up on helping eat the brownie sundae I ordered.

At the game I had a Lobster Roll and Mik tried a bite of it. He did not like it, but that is because it was his first time trying lobster and he now knows he just does not like lobster. He did admit the bun/bread was very good. It was the same type of bun the hot dogs were on and if he had been hungry he would have gotten a hot dog. He thought they could not be too bad of hot dogs because the bun is so awesome.

Normally I get the ice cream in a helmet, but this time Mik got it. At Fenway they serve it with the most ice cream we have ever seen in a helmet and it was still only $5. The ice cream is not all that special, as it is just soft serve, but at least you really get your money’s worth.

Mik’s Food Scrapbook: Rogers Centre

The first thing Mik tried at the Rogers Centre was Sour Patch Kids. Yeah, they are basically the same as in the United States, but they are distributed by a different company and actually do seem a little different. At first Mik thought they were not as sour, but it was only because all the sour had ended up on his hand from holding it too long. In the end he actually thought they were sourer because they seem a little thinner.

Mik did not end up with any of his own food at the Rogers Centre, as he filled up on donuts from Tim Horton’s on the way to the game. He was going to try the gyro, but not when he learned it was made with chicken and not the normal beef. He was also disappointed to not find any regular fries anywhere. He did, however, try the sweet potato fries I got. He did not like them, though. He did enjoy the part he tried of the three cheese pannini I had.

Mik’s Food Scrapbook: PNC Park

Mik was looking forward to the Pirates game at PNC Park since the beginning of the trip. It was partially because it was his birthday, but mostly because he heard that they served pierogies at the park. He was not disappointed, as in fact they do still serve them. However, it was a little disappointing to find out they were just Mrs. T’s pierogies. At least they boiled them, which is how we like to make them and they are still good pierogies. Also, they are served with sour cream, which I liked, but Mik does not like unless it is with cinnamon and sugar. It definitely beats the normal ballpark fare.

The pierogies were not filling enough and Mik also ended up trying a hot dog. He rated it about middle compared to the other hot dogs he has had at the various ballparks.

Day 35: Mik's 15th Birthday

Today is Mik's 15th birthday. Before heading to hunt down old ballpark sites in Pittsburgh we stopped at Dairy Queen to celebrate. Mik got a mini cake that had a brownie on the bottom. It had some sauces drizzled on top and Mik ended up getting that all off on his first attempt to get a bite of the ice cream. I had a banana split and Dad had a blizzard.
